Replanted my Mountain Laurel today. I had to rescue it a couple of weeks ago when I noticed it swimming in pool of water in the poorly drained soil around it.

I added a lot more compost and top soil to the native soil and dug up a much wider (but not deeper) hole. I’m hoping all the top soil, compost and mulch I added will improve the quality of the soil enough to save it in that spot – I would love for it to thrive where it is, near the gate to my back yard in dappled shade.

I also planted a new Rhododendron about 4 feet away along the fence. They will look so lovely blooming side by side in the spring.

This is the shrub from my parent’s house that I need to dig up and bring to my yard. Thankfully, they are still small!

Found this description for the Pink Velour Crepe Myrtle.

Pink Velour Crape Myrtles™ are perfect as impressive ornamental trees or colorful, living privacy screens. This unique tree will definitely attract attention as the centerpiece of your property.

Pink Velour Crape Myrtles™ proudly display delicate pink blooms that last for months… giving your lawn a burst of color and delightful curb appeal.

Growing to a spread of 8-10 feet, plant them 4-5 feet apart for a natural solution to screening or as a desirable property divider. Also works well planted near your foundation.

Liven up your kitchen with beautiful cut floral arrangements from your Pink Velour Crape Myrtle. They look and smell wonderful!

What an easy tree to plant and grow! It’s highly mildew resistant and drought tolerant, so you can plant it and forget it. These trees are easy to care for and a delight to watch.

We played some tennis at our park today, went to Lowes for some supplies, then did some yard work.

I replanted the 2nd section of grass seed that didn’t take well the first time. Scraped more rocks out of the way, put down some top soil and compost and spread it out. Then I re- seeded and then put down these pellets that are biodegradable mulch/fertilizer that is supposed to swell up with water and keep the seeds moist and safely in their place so they don’t get washed away.

I think it’s going to work this time.

Husband spent some time splitting wood in the yard and spraying termite bug spray like crazy when he found the critters hanging out in the pile. I’m thinking that’s not good for the environment and probably not going to be good when we BURN the wood in the winter, but we don’t want those suckers snacking on our house.

I also got some stakes for my tomato plants and tied them up. I think I still need 3 more, but this is much better than it was.

I ate my first topsy turvey tomato the other day! It was a small one, but ripe and tasty. Hooray!

Tomorrow I need to remember to dig up the shrub in my Mom’s front yard that she wants to give me. I found one at lowes today and it was in bloom and really pretty. It was a pink Myrtle I think. Here is a link that looks like what she’s got. Dang – I didn’t know they got that big! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagerstroemia

I know just where to put it.

The Danger of Excessive Vaccination During Brian Development: the case for a link to autism spectrum disorders (ASD) by Russell L. Blaylock, MD

I’m reading this paper now. I hope anyone who is “on the fence” with this issue is also able to find and read this material before having to make vaccination decisions for their family.

What a delightful and satisfying day. We took the kids to the park and played tennis and then

on the playground. We went to Sonic for lunch and christened the new van with our first meal in the new car. Then I did some work in the yard and went foodshopping by myself (bonus). I listened to my own playlist on the ipod in the car two and from the food store, singing all the way. I even noticed that people were even VERY nice at Shopright, holding the door open for each other (the automatic door was broken) and the person behind me made sure I didn’t forget the eggs that I almost missed because they got stuck at the beginning of the belt.

I realized on my way home that I seriously haven’t felt this happy, not content but really joyously /happy/, in a long time. I just felt so good all day today. Time with the family, sunshine, new car, good music and good food.

When I got home we put the groceries away and Jasper and I prepped food for the grill. He made “the best burgers he’s ever made in his LIFE” according to him and he grilled the most delicious chicken and summer squash kibabs ever. So juicy and tasty. We soaked the chicken in olive oil, fig vinegar (thanks Evie) and some chicken seasoning for a while before we put them on the skewers. Corn on the cob on the grill and some salad to boot! Top it all off with a frozen Mojito and you just can’t get much better if you tried.

Tonight I’ll watch Sunday’s episode of True Blood and work on a new logo design I landed. If I can knock out a few concepts tonight, I’ll get to work on a web update that’s been waiting in my inbox till after the http://njpea.org website launch was over.

It’s 9:34pm now – time for stories and get these kids to bed. *sigh* This was one for the books! :)
